For the units in the park, the advantages are plentiful. These include good infrastructure such as quality power, an efficient water distribution system, an innovative waste management system, a rubber testing and certification center, well-laid internal roads, a hostel and dormitory, a conference hall, a board room, and a mini-conference room. The park is in close proximity to the container terminal, air, and sea ports (less than 30 km away). Land has been allotted to 57 units in Rubber Park, Irapuram. The units are mainly classified into latex, dry rubber, and rubber wood, based on the raw materials used for production. The units produce a variety of rubber goods, such as precured tread rubber, bonding gum, flaps, molded rubber goods, rubber balloons, gaskets, valves, equipment seals, diaphragms, heavy-duty air hoses, O-rings, mud flaps, mats, high-quality condoms, latex tubing, powder-free finger cots, and high-quality medical gloves. Additionally, rubber wood-based products like plywood, block board, and chipboard are also manufactured in the park.
Rubber Park is one of the Power Distribution Licensee in the state of Kerala under the Electricity Act, 2003 for distribution of electricity to the Industrial units having own substation and well laid underground distribution network. Soorya, the 110/11kV Substation at the Park has a capacity of 2 X 12.5 MVA. This is connected to an ultra modern distribution network using 11kV underground cables. Being one of the electricity distribution licensees operating in the State of Kerala, the Rubber Park provides immediate connection to the units against application.
Sarovaram, an artificially constructed pond inside the Park has a capacity of 25 million litres. Storm water of 65 acres of the Park’s land is collected here. There is 1.5 MLD water supply system with 0.45 MLD overhead storage adds to the rain harvesting done in land in and around the Park. Augmentation of the capacity by 1.5 MLD is about to be completed.
An innovative waste management system underlines the Park’s commitment to global standards in environment protection. The company had constructed a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for the treatment of effluents from the industrial units inside the park. The common effluent treatment plant of 250 Cu. M /day capacity is provided for the treatment of effluent and it also acts as a fish farming centre and irrigation source. The company had taken steps for the augmentation of the treatment capacity to 500 Cu. M by adding another unit of 250 Cu. M.
Testing of all Rubber /Polymer products and their certification to any international standards can be done at the NABL accredited J J Murphy Research Centre in the Park. This Centre is established to ensure Industry-Institution-Interaction and fusion of academia with the industry.
